Tobias is the current MTD.
Founder Michael Tobias began his career in 1974 and is one of the most important figures among modern bass guitar builders.
Currently, MTD is known for being a favorite of world-class bassists such as Andrew Gouche, Bubby Lewis, and Jerry Watts. (Titles omitted)
This is the Tobias Standard 5, which was made in Japan for a while.
It features a neck-through construction and shares many aesthetic features with the USA-made Classic 5.
The body is light ash and the fingerboard is ebony, giving it a high-end look.
The pickups and preamp are both made by Bartolini.
The use of a buffer and preamp configuration is similar to that of MTD.
The preamp is a TCT, which gives it a sense of its era.
It has the smooth, tight feel of a neck-through guitar and the powerful, active-drive sound that's so appealing.
This is a guitar that anyone who enjoys the sound of Warwick, Spector, or Ibanez should definitely try.
Approximately 60% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff, but has been confirmed to work at about 90 degrees.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and finish show signs of use, with dents and scratches throughout.
The electronics are in good condition.
The bridge has been replaced with a Wilkinson.
