Description & Condition
Gibson is a king of guitars, having produced numerous legendary instruments.
While their guitars are particularly popular, their basses, with their distinctive looks and rock-inspired sound, are also extremely popular.
This model is a Grabber Bass from the late 1970s.
The pot date is 1347529.
The serial number is 549920.
These factors were considered to determine the age.
The body is likely mahogany, and the neck and fretboard are maple.
The bridge has been replaced with a Leo Quan Badass II Bass.
However, this Badass itself is also quite old.
The original pickups can be moved forward and backward.
While unique, this could be useful for subtle tonal changes in recording.
The combination of the mahogany body's rich low-to-low-mid sound, crisp highs, and powerful pickups creates a truly Gibson-esque and very appealing sound.
This bass has potential to be useful not only for rock bassists but also for R&B and funk.
The frets have approximately 40% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck has a slight warp. Also, to avoid fret buzz due to the low frets, the string height is set 1.5mm higher than the GIB standard (3.5mm-4.0mm at the 12th fret). It is currently playable without any problems.
The body and paintwork have numerous dents and cracks. There is a large buckle scratch of about 7cm on the back, a paint chip of over 10cm on the side, and evidence that the strap pin at the end has been moved and redrilled.
The electronics are in good condition.
The strap pins have been replaced with Schaller type pins.
The bridge has been replaced with a Leo Quan Badass II Bass.
