Description & Condition
ZON is a bass guitar brand established in 1981.
Its designs, which actively incorporate new materials such as graphite and phenowood, are highly regarded and are favored by musicians like tetsuya and Michael Manring. (Titles omitted)
ZON offers several models, but this one is the SONUS, which incorporates a classic style.
Unlike the set-neck LEGACY, the Sonus features a bolt-on neck joint.
It boasts a quick response and attack, and can be described as a model that aims for a somewhat Fender-like sound.
The neck is made of carbon fiber, the fingerboard is phenowood, and the body is ash—standard specifications for a ZON SONUS.
Phenowood is a wood made by laminating multiple layers, impregnating them with black dye and a hardening resin, and compressing them at high temperatures.
The wood's expansion and contraction rate is extremely small, resulting in significantly higher stability compared to ordinary wood.
The pickups and preamp are both Bartolini.
While it has a chic appearance, the sound is equally impressive.
It boasts a very pure and clear sound, and a raw, responsive feel that is quite distinctive.
Being a 4-string model, its open tone is also appealing.
It's a bass with universally appealing qualities.
The frets have approximately 70% remaining.
This model does not have a truss rod.
The neck is slightly bowed forward. Since this is a ZON from the era before truss rods, it's impossible to correct this, but the condition isn't bad. From a GIB standard, it would be desirable to adjust it to be a little straighter, but considering the neck angle and current saddle height, it seems this condition might have been recommended. Currently, it plays without problems with a standard GIB setting (G string 2.0mm, E string 2.5mm at the 12th fret).
The body and paintwork show some minor scratches.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
