Description & Condition
Bottom Wave is an original brand by Rough Time, which handled the import of Fodera and other brands in Japan.
It is known for being used by top professionals such as Hideyuki Komatsu, Felix Pastorius, Dominique DiPiazza, and Roberto Valley. (Titles omitted)
This instrument is a very rare MB-5 prototype created during the production process.
From its looks and specifications, it appears to be a signature model for Hideyuki Komatsu.
The beautiful and alluring Majora White finish, which changes color depending on the viewing angle, is eye-catching.
The body is Alder, and the fingerboard is Rosewood.
This is a classic combination that produces a well-balanced, rich mid-low range and a tenacious tone.
The pickups appear to be original.
The output balance of each string is excellent, purely outputting the subtle nuances of the player's touch.
The preamp is Bartolini / NTCT.
This preamp boasts a wide range and a thick, powerful sound that pairs well with fretless basses, enhancing the woody, warm tone characteristic of fretless basses.
The sound is characterized by a lustrous midrange, almost like a singing voice, and a woody, acoustic resonance.
From the low-B on the 5th string to the high positions, the sound remains clear and distinct across all frequencies, allowing each phrase to sing distinctly.
It excels not only in jazz and fusion solo work but also in supporting pop music with a melodic bassline.
For players seeking a reliable and expressive 5-string fretless bass for live performances, or for those who want to own a rare prototype not available on the market, this is undoubtedly a wise choice.
The truss rod is stiff, but approximately 90 degrees of movement has been confirmed.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork have scratches and buckle marks throughout.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
