YAMAHA has been supporting the industry since the early days of Japanese guitar making and is the Japanese Gibson.
The quality of their products is highly regarded and they have been used by top musicians such as Abraham Laboriel, Nathan East and John Patituccia.
This is the prototype of the SB series, SBV, which was introduced in the 1960s.
The scale is unique at 29.625" (800mm).
It is a little shorter than the 34" (864mm) scale commonly used by Fender and others.
The sound gives the impression of being so refined that it is hard to believe that it is so old.
It has a thick, massive texture, but also has a strong treble range, which makes it sound through and out of tune.
The serial looks like it was made in 1966, but I think it actually appeared in 1967 or 1968.
Perhaps the production itself was in 1966.
There are roughly 50% frets remaining.
The truss rod is in good working order.
The neck is forward warped on the low fret side and has a reverse warp wave from around the 5th fret.
The current string height at the 12th fret is 2.5 mm on the 1st string side and 3.0 mm on the 4th string side, which is playable without clogging or chattering.
The body and paintwork are in good condition, with a few dents and dull parts.
There are signs that the strap pin on the neck side has been repositioned and the original lower hole remains.
The bridge cover and thumb rest are missing.
The plastic part supporting the ball end is cracked, but is currently usable without any problems.
The pickguard is shrunken and distorted, and some of the mounting screws are at an angle.
The electrical system is in good condition.
The control cavity is sealed with conductive paint.
Controls: volume, tone.
