Xotic is a brand founded in LA by Japanese builder Hiro Miura.
In Japan, it is used by musicians such as Yoshiteru Takahashi, BJ from indigo jam unit, and Katsushi Morioka, and overseas by famous musicians such as Chuck Rainey, Rhonda Smith, and Travis Carlton.
The XJ series has been highly regarded by studio workers as a Japanese-made line.
While fundamentally built in the Fender style, several aspects have been modernized.
This particular instrument was manufactured relatively recently, in 2024.
The body is made of ash, and the fingerboard is rosewood.
A classic wood configuration.
The color is 3-tone burst.
The finish is lacquer, with a heavy aged finish.
The tuning machines are HIPSHOT Ultralite, and the bridge features an original design similar to the HIPSHOT STYLE A.
The sound is clean and well-balanced, with sufficient low-end presence and pleasant overtones.
It offers exceptional playability and is overall of a high standard.
Such a bass is a reliable companion for session musicians and studio musicians.
The remaining fret life is approximately 90%.
The truss rod is firm but has been confirmed to move approximately 90 degrees.
The neck shows slight signs of bowing, but it can be played without issues at our store's standard string height settings: G string 2.0mm to E string 2.5mm.
The body and finish, being a relic model, are difficult to assess, but it appears to have few new scratches.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were found.
