Sugi is a brand by Mr. Sugimoto, a legend who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
Based in Nagano Prefecture, it manufactures high-quality guitars and basses, highly regarded by many musicians.
The NB is known as the flagship model, famously played by musicians like Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
The body top is Spalted Maple, the back is Ash, the neck is a laminated type with a Maple core, and the fingerboard is Cocobolo.
The technique of laminating multiple woods to form the neck minimizes lateral and individual variations, achieving greater stability.
GOTOH hardware is used for the bridge and tuners, but this is not standard.
They are custom-made by Sugi specifically for this bass, optimized for its unique characteristics.
Despite having 24 frets, the sound is characterized by a tightness that doesn't feel overly constricted, maintaining an open quality.
This characteristic seems to positively influence both fingerstyle and slap playing.
Approximately 80% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff but confirmed to have about 90 degrees of adjustment range.
The neck condition is good.
The body and finish show some dullness on the metal parts, but no noticeable scratches are present.
The electronics are in good condition.
The capacitor has been replaced with a DEL RITMO Black Candy.
