Description & Condition
Spector is a guitar and bass brand founded in New York in 1974 by Stuart Spector.
In the early days of the brand, Vinny Fodera—who would later go on to establish Fodera Guitars—also worked at the Spector workshop.
The NS model, which represents the Spector brand, gained explosive popularity worldwide.
This design was created in collaboration with Ned Steinberger.
The present model is a modern interpretation based on the original NS design, updated to meet contemporary standards.
As a special NS model, this instrument makes generous use of premium tonewoods and high-end electronics.
As you can see, the body top features high-grade Quilted Maple.
In recent years, the cost of wood of this quality has continued to rise.
The body back is made of Solid Maple, and true to the NS design philosophy, the entire body is constructed from Maple.
The neck is a 3-piece Maple construction.
This laminated neck design helps reduce left-right imbalance and individual variation, resulting in greater overall stability.
The fingerboard is made of Pau Ferro.
The bass is equipped with Aguilar DCB G4 pickups and an Aguilar OBP-2 preamp.
Like Spector, Aguilar is a New York–based brand and is highly trusted by top bassists and leading high-end bass manufacturers worldwide, including Fodera.
It is quite rare to see Aguilar components used in instruments within this price range.
However, this collaboration is made possible by the fact that KORG, which owns the Spector brand, also owns Aguilar.
What stood out most when playing this instrument was its overall build quality.
The precise fretwork, smoothly finished fingerboard, and beautiful paintwork all reflect a high level of craftsmanship.
The high quality of Spector basses made in the USA and EU is already well known.
This Korean-made model leaves no negative impression at all; in fact, considering the price, it delivers an exceptionally positive impression.
The excellent balance at this price point is largely due to the use of Aguilar hardware.
The pairing works extremely well, producing a powerful, noise-free sound.
Personally, I find the Aguilar combination to be more versatile than the EMG + Tone Pump setup,
and easier to use in typical ensemble settings.
When advanced manufacturing techniques are combined with high-quality materials, the result is naturally a high-quality instrument.
This Korean-made Spector NS model clearly demonstrates that simple but fundamental principle.
