The Stingray is the brand's most popular and classic model.
It's no exaggeration to say that, alongside the Fender Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it's one of the most popular basses in the world.

Speaking of Stingrays, the specifications differ before and after Music Man was acquired by Erni Ball, and models from before the acquisition are specially treated as Pre-Ernie models.

The Stingray was introduced in 1976, and the specifications changed around 1980.

This particular guitar was manufactured in 1978, making it one of the earliest.

The neck is stamped JAN 16 1978. The neck pocket is stamped NOV 28 197⚪︎.

The two visible potentiometer dates are engraved 1377733.

A comprehensive assessment of these factors allowed us to determine the instrument's age.

Notable features include a flat-contoured body, a three-knob circuit, a three-point joint, and a through-the-back bridge.

It has a more woody, low-toned sound than models equipped with four-knob preamps.

However, this is only in comparison; when viewed on its own, it produces a crisp, powerful sound when boosted with the preamp.

Boosting the lows produces a punchy sound, while boosting the treble produces a more vibrant, attacking sound.

The maple neck is beautifully crafted in one piece with no glue joints.

This is one of those appealing vintage basses.

Approximately 85% of the frets remain.

The truss rod has visible movement of 65 degrees in the tightening direction and 90 degrees in the loosening direction.

The neck is in good condition.
The body and finish show dents, paint chipping, and scratches.
The electrical system is in good condition.
GIB has refretted, re-nutted, repainted the fingerboard, and created a pickguard. The bridge is designed to prevent strings from being threaded through the top of the strings.
