Description & Condition
Black Smoker is a handmade brand launched in 2016 by the workshop BLACK CLOUD in Azumino, Nagano.
The instruments produced by two skilled builders with a wealth of experience are supported by many professional musicians, including Shunsuke Ochi, Futoshi Sakai and Ren Yamamoto.
This model is a Standard Series 4-string JB type.
The body is made of ash and the fingerboard is made of rosewood.
Ash + maple and alder + rosewood are standard, but the ash + rosewood matches the open, playable nuance of ash with the richness of rosewood's mid-range, and we feel that they are a good match.
An Ovaltone preamp is used.
It is a type with a 2-band EQ, and together with the passive tone, we feel that it is easy to use.
The impression is that it has been carefully finished as a domestic brand, from incorporation to painting.
The sound emitted has a cozy feel and the entire instrument vibrates with an open impression.
Overall, it is modern, has high quality details and is attractive to many bassists.
This is an excellent instrument that you should definitely give a try.
The frets are approximately 80% remaining.
The truss rod is in good working order.
The neck is in good condition. The grips were originally painted matte, but have been played and are now shiny. Minor scratches are scattered.
The body and paintwork are in good condition with scattered small scratches and scratches. There is a large 25 mm ding near the elbow cut.
The electrical system is in good condition, with a loud buzzing noise when turning the treble and bass knobs. Otherwise, it is in good working order.
There is what appears to be a paint or glue stain near the nut side on the 4th string side. There are also stains on the fingerboard, so we judge that the nut has been replaced or reattached.
