Description & Condition
Benevolent Basses is a bass brand created by Korean builder Jaeyoung Jung.
He studied instrument making at the Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in the United States, which produced artists such as Adamovic's Nicola, and later started his own brand.
It has a reputation for its bass design that incorporates an acoustic style, and its originality and excellent quality are highly praised.
This is a model called Benevolo Quattro.
As you can see, the design is a bold mix of double basses.
Spruce is used for the top of the body and Alder is used for the back.
It has a hollow body structure, and it looks a little like Rick Turner or Rob Allen around here.
The neck is Maple and the fingerboard is Ebony.
The scale is 33 inches, and the string pitch is 18 mm.
Common strings can be used.
The PU is only a piezo in the saddle, and the controls are simple with only volume and tone.
Combined with a Humpback buffer, it can be handled like a regular electric bass.
There is no discomfort in holding it and it fits well.
I think it feels better because the scale is a little shorter.
Sound-wise, it's very close to a contrabass.
This wouldn't have been possible just by making it fretless, so it's probably because of the clear concept and the high level of design ability that turned it into reality.
It gives off plenty of low, so it feels easy to handle.
If you only use piezo PU, it may be a little too crispy, or you may feel uncomfortable with the over-emphasized rawness, but this doesn't have that.
I think you can get a stronger double bass-like nuance by using these instruments than by using a poor EUB.
Even for people who originally play electric bass, these instruments are very useful. You should find it fun to play.
The truss rod works well.
The neck is in good condition. You can see the center shift towards the 1st string side.
The condition of the body and paint surface is that there are small dents and scratches.
The electrical system is in good condition.
No obvious modification points were found.
