Anaconda Basses is a UK-based bass guitar brand that has received exceptional acclaim in recent years, especially in Europe and the United States.
The Ultra J Essence Bass is one of the most dynamic brands, having won an award from the prestigious bass music publication, Bass Guitar Magazine.
The Ultra J Essence series underwent a complete overhaul in 2024, further improving its performance.
The scale is 34.5 inches, the same as the F-Bass BN5.
The scale is 0.5 inches longer than usual to achieve tighter bass strings, resulting in a stronger fundamental tone.
Even so, the G string is not overly tight and has a flexible nuance.
The slightly thicker C-shape neck is designed to become a flatter D-shape as you move up the frets.
This allows for smooth thumb positioning, and the organic shaping is not simply uniform, but rather conveys a meaningful meaning.
The neck incorporates two carbon fiber rods for added strength.
If the neck is too stiff, the low B and E strings can sometimes get a little too wild, but this seems to be resolved by adjusting the scale.
The tuning machines are GOTOH RES-O-LITE.
It seems that GOTOH tuning machines are being used more frequently recently, especially among European brands. This is probably a sign of their reliability.
The RES-O-LITE is a lightweight type, and the sound quality feels similar to that of the HIPSHOT Ultralite.
It would not be a bad choice even for those who dislike Japanese metal hardware.
The pickups are an original design.
They have a wide range with just the right amount of compression, and a rich mid-range.
Another great feature is the hum-canceling design, which makes them low noise.
The preamp that goes with this is, of course, the original AC3-TZ Active 3-Band Preamp.
Controls are volume/passive tone, balancer, mid (push-pull frequency band switching 250/800Hz), and treble/bass.
The character of this preamp is very unique and high-quality.
It delivers the expansive low end, crisp mids, and punchy treble that bassists demand.
Looking at the bassists who use this guitar, many of them are gospel and R&B bassists, and the sound makes sense.
It truly has the nuances of BASS CHOPS.
It's well designed overall, delivering outstanding performance at a high level.
The manufacturer has a next-generation feel, including their manufacturing methods and materials.

Approximately 90% of the frets remain.
The truss rod is stiff, but has been confirmed to move about 90 degrees.
The neck shows slight high-rise. The string height is 2.0mm-2.8mm above 12th fret, which is the GIB standard, and can buzz depending on picking strength.
The body and finish show scattered scratches and dents. There is dirt and sun damage on the side of the neck, likely caused by luminous tape.
The electrical system is in good condition.
No obvious modifications were found.
