Sadowsky is a high-end New York brand with top musicians such as Marcus Miller and Will Lee as clients.
Previously, Metroline models were manufactured in Japan, but production has now moved to the Warwick factory in Germany.
Roger Sadowsky spoke at length about manufacturing at Warwick during his visit to GIB Yokohama.
His primary requirement when searching for a factory was the ability to produce a large volume of guitars and basses without compromising quality.
He mentioned that finding a factory that met these requirements was challenging.
He also expressed great satisfaction with the Warwick manufacturing process.
While there were concerns about the quality, given the high regard for the Japanese-made Metroline models, judging from the actual instrument, these concerns seem unfounded.
Japanese-made Metroline guitars incorporated many unique designs.
However, Warwick-made Metroline guitars have specifications quite similar to the NYC models, and are made based on Roger's input.
For example, the body is chambered, just like the NYC models, and the bridge is made entirely of brass.
These differences between the old and new Metroline models exist, and the newer models seem to be received relatively positively.
Furthermore, all Warwick-made Sadowsky guitars imported into Japan undergo rigorous inspection by Yamano Music.
Yamano Music, which handles the import and sales of Fender and Gibson guitars and has nurtured them into strong brands, also implements quality control, so it can be said that Metroline guitars distributed in Japan are of truly excellent quality.
This model is a modern model with a wide tonal range thanks to its 24 frets.
While the soapbar-equipped version is also popular, this model, which retains more of the JB feel, is also popular.
The body is chambered, making it extremely lightweight.
When I asked Roger about the advantages of chambered construction, he said that the lightweight design is something musicians prefer, and the comfortable playing feel is also a positive point.
The hum-canceling pickups, highly regarded by many musicians, and the powerful preamp deliver a powerful sound even with low string action.
Overall, it's a product with high potential.
As a side note, I asked Roger why the 24-fret MS model uses soapbar pickups.
He explained that soapbar pickups are used on the 24-fret model because maintaining distance between the neck pickup and the fretboard results in a tighter sound, so using warm pickups balances this.
However, even though it's also a 24-fret model, the VJ model has the same pickup positions as the JB model, and therefore the pickup type itself is also the same as the JB model.
Both the VJ and MS models have wonderful designs, so please compare them and choose the one that's perfect for you.
