Description & Condition
Sire shot to fame as the brand that released a bass supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of the guitars and basses they manufacture is exceptionally high, and they are highly regarded even by non-Marcus fans.
This is their new model, the Z3-4.
As you can see, it’s a model inspired by the Musicman Stingray.
The neck has a lovely vintage feel to it, doesn’t it?
The body is made of mahogany.
Since high-quality mahogany is readily available in Indonesia, that’s likely why they chose it.
In reality, even Musicman tends to be somewhat indifferent to body materials—aside from their appearance—so they may not place much emphasis on how it affects the sound. (Just my opinion.)
For this type of design, the performance and placement of the pickups, as well as the preamp, are crucial elements.
SIRE has adopted its own original designs for both.
In particular, the preamp isn’t simply repurposed from the original JB model; they developed a dedicated preamp called the HERITAGE-3.
The controls are Volume, Treble, Mid, and Bass.
Pulling up the Bass knob bypasses the preamp, allowing the guitar to be played in passive mode.
Since the original Musicman Stingray doesn’t offer a passive option, I think many people will view this as a positive feature.
The finish on the fingerboard and frets is outstanding.
While this is to be expected in this price range, the build quality is so high that it holds its own even when compared to higher-end models.
The nut width is 42mm, which follows the Musicman Stingray style and is slightly wider than average.
The sound delivers exactly what you’d expect: crisp, powerful highs and tight lows.
Until now, there haven’t been many options in this category, but I feel a fantastic replica has finally arrived. I highly recommend it.
