Momose is based in Matsumoto, Nagano and produces high quality basses and guitars.
They are renowned for their beautiful looks and excellent sound.
It is popular among professionals and is known as a favourite of top musicians such as Kazuki Isogai and Kyohei Ariga.
The MJ Five is an ambitious design based on the traditional JB style with unique design details.
This is the so-called Show model, released in 2024.
The EWC in the model name means Exotic Wood Custom.
This series is built using the finest woods, carefully selected by the most discerning craftsmen.
The body top, finished in a unique blue fade colour, is Flame Tochi.
It is characterised by a very deep grain, and a maple with exactly the same grain would be unbelievably expensive.
Of course, comparing which is better is nonsense and impossible.
The body back is Ash in 1P without lamination.
This is a very luxurious specification, as it is really expensive these days.
The neck is made of beautiful quarter-sawn Maple and the fingerboard is made of rare Flame Maple.
The beauty of the wood itself is harmonised and emphasised to create a convincing look.
The paintwork is Top Lacquer finish.
The colour of the paint changes dramatically as the top clear layer discolours.
This balance of using a strong paint such as urethane for the base and a lacquer finish for the top, which is responsible for the look, is really rational.
The PU is a Mojotone and the preamp an Aguilar OBP-2.
Controls are volume, balancer, tone, treble/bass and preamp bypass switch.
The sound has universal appeal in ensembles, with plenty of swinging bass and atacky, air-banging treble.
This is a must-try for the bassist with a field-oriented approach, as well as for bassists who want to get their own special one.
