Description & Condition
Lollar Pickups is an American pickup brand.
Its competence is highly regarded worldwide and it is used by many guitar brands that specialise in the price range from 500,000 yen to 1,200,000 yen.
They are also supported by leading artists such as Kevin Nolan, Steve Stout and Katsumi Watanabe, and are highly regarded by both builders and players.
I met them at a guitar show in Germany.
I had known about their high quality for a long time, but their personality was also very nice.
I asked them many questions about pickups (on a hobby level) and they answered all of them accurately and politely.
The replies were very logical and I was very convinced of the high quality.
The founder, Jason Lollar, originally studied guitar making and is familiar with many styles of archtop and electric guitars.
He has written extensively on pickups and his books have influenced many guitar builders.
This model is a pickup for a 4-string JB, designed to 1970s specifications.
In the 1970s, JBs had a different bridge pickup position.
This one aims to reproduce that kind of sound.
It has a stronger low end to middle than the normal model.
However, it also has a very distinct attack.
On top of this character, it retains a natural, JB-like texture that blends in with the ensemble.
The relatively high number of windings on the bridge PU is also not to be overlooked.
This results in a more emphatic crisp strength when used alone.
The height of the polepiece is adjusted to the fingerboard R and designed to be optimally spaced for each string.
This aims to improve the volume balance depending on the strings.
If the polepiece is flat, especially on multi-string basses, only the volume of the strings at both ends can be loud.
This is a big problem and a real point of concern for bassists.
Essentially the same is true for 4-string basses.
If you want a hotter texture rather than simply a 1970s feel, try this.
Average resistance: Neck 7.9k, Bridge 10.4k
Recommended pot resistance: 1meg volume, 250k tone
Recommended capacitor capacitance: 0.047mF
