JIENIE BASSES is a custom bass brand launched in 2023.

The Custom Shop Series maintains a unique style while allowing for extensive customization of features like scale, neck shape, and head size.

In contrast, the newly launched Essential Series is characterized by specifications based on the brand's ideal balance and a streamlined design.

This model, the MJ-5, was conceived ten years before the brand was founded. It was inspired by the 5-string JB.

While incorporating a 5-string style, the sound retains the JB's inherent character, while adding high playability and convenience for the modern musician.

The body is made of ash, the neck is maple, and the fretboard is maple, creating a classic configuration.

The neck is thin and slender, minimizing mass as much as possible. This results in a sound that closely resembles a 4-string bass.

The neck is reinforced with carbon fiber only near the joint with the body. Since the strength drops significantly at the joint, this reinforcement prevents warping from there.

Reinforcing the entire instrument would have significantly altered the sound, so minimal processing was used.

The head, like the JB, is based on a stepped design, with minimal angle adjustment and head thickness settings.

This eliminates parts like tension pins, and the strings contact the nut at a minimal angle.

This design eliminates unnecessary elements, allowing the strings to vibrate more freely and with richer harmonics.

The body shape is designed with smooth, three-dimensional curves, resulting in a snug fit and a sophisticated look.

While there's no pickguard, the spacing between the body top and the strings is set to be nearly identical to that of a standard JB.

Overall, you'll experience the comfortable body balance, fit, and excellent playability characteristic of the JB style.

The bridge and tuning machines are made with HIPSHOT, high-quality hardware that's extremely lightweight and free of waste.

The pickups are single-coil pickups custom-ordered from Delano. We aimed to avoid over-increasing the number of turns, and instead capture the characteristic treble nuances of a four-string bass.

The preamplifier was designed in-house and manufactured by KarDiaN. Designed for use with passive tones, it features a dedicated two-band boost EQ.

The bass boost densely fills the 40-70Hz range, while the treble boost adds a vibrant 4-10kHz presence. By boosting these two components sufficiently, the frequency range around 500Hz feels relatively cut.

The passive tone combined here plays a crucial role.

By using the passive tone before the PU passes through the active circuit, the high frequencies are suppressed, resulting in the powerful high-mid characteristic of a passive device. This is purely for the purpose of creating a high-midrange, and any excess or deficiency in the high range is compensated for with EQ.

The MJ-5's sound is completed by combining the PU, preamp, and passive tone, all designed with a clear concept in mind.

The thickness and attack of a passive JB, the powerful low and high ranges typical of a JB, and the treble texture of a 4-string bass despite being a 5-string. The JIENIE MJ-5 embodies these characteristics.
