De Gier is a Dutch brand founded by Sander De Gier in 1996.
Originally, he focused on making unique, modern bass guitars, but now he primarily produces products emphasizing the Fender style.
The brand was originally highly acclaimed, but since releasing the BeBop, a JB-style model, its sheer excellence has left him fully occupied with that work.
Currently, in addition to Fender-style guitars, the lineup also includes unique models incorporating Gibson style.
I first encountered De Gier at the Guitar Summit held in Germany in 2022.
At first glance, I was intrigued by its appearance, and the moment I plucked the strings, that belief became a conviction.
The quality was so overwhelming that I began negotiations.
At first, sales in Japan were difficult for various reasons, but after persistent negotiations, we are now able to begin sales. (It was so amazing that I really wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, so I persisted for a long time.)
Many other brands were exhibiting at Guitar Summit, and I spoke with various builders.
De Gier came up several times, and its skills seemed to be widely known.
Several builders even said they had ordered basses from De Gier for themselves.
That's how highly acclaimed the brand is in Europe and the United States.
And I personally hold it in the highest regard.
This is the Lowlander model exhibited at Guitar Summit 2025.
As you can see, it's based on the Gibson Thunderbird.
The body is made of cedar, the neck is a 9-ply cedar and walnut, and the fingerboard is rosewood.
By using a method of bonding multiple pieces of wood together to create the neck, differences between left and right basses and individual differences are reduced, resulting in greater stability.
The neck is reinforced with carbon, which extends all the way to the tip of the headstock.
As you know, the headstocks of Gibson-style guitars and basses are prone to breaking, and this design compensates for that.
The bridge is original, and the tuning machines are HIPSHOT.
The pickups are T-Bird-style Lollar.
The color is Jamaica Blue.
The finish is nitrocellulose lacquer and relic processed.
The beautiful atmosphere created by this coloring and relic processing is one of De Gier's distinctive features.
The quality is truly high.
With this style of bass, poor balance when hung with a strap is often pointed out.
This has been improved by adjusting the position of the strap pin.
The sound is fat and dirty.
However, the extensive use of cedar wood in the construction adds a clear, speedy nuance.
There are not many Gibson-style basses on the market, but even among them, one that has been put together with such high level of perfection is truly rare.
While De Gier is highly regarded for his Fender-inspired style, he has proven he can create something equally special in this style.
This is a highly recommended instrument for those who don't normally play Gibson basses, as well as for Gibson bass enthusiasts.
This instrument will be adjusted for optimal playability by GIB craftsmen before delivery.
