Description & Condition

De Gier is a Dutch brand founded by Sander De Gier in 1996.

Originally, he focused on making unique, modern bass guitars, but now he primarily produces products with a Fender-style feel.

The brand was originally highly acclaimed, but since releasing the BeBop, a JB-style model, its excellence has meant that he's been completely taken up by that work.

Currently, in addition to Fender-style guitars, the lineup also includes unique models incorporating Gibson style.

I first encountered De Gier at the Guitar Summit held in Germany in 2022.
At first glance, I was excited by its appearance, and the moment I played it, that feeling became a conviction.

Their overwhelming quality was such that we began negotiations.

At first, it was difficult to sell in Japan for various reasons, but after persistent negotiations, we are now able to begin sales. (It was so amazing that I really wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, so I persisted for a long time.)

Many other brands were exhibiting at Guitar Summit, and I spoke with a variety of builders.
De Gier came up several times, and their skills seemed to be widely known.

Several builders even said they had ordered basses from De Gier for themselves.

That's how highly regarded the brand is in Europe and the United States.
And I personally hold them in the highest regard as well.

This model is their smash hit, the BeBop5.

Marcus Miller purchased the prototype of this model, and Richard Bona ordered one soon after.

It continues to be highly esteemed by serious musicians like them.

The body is made of ash and the fingerboard is made of rosewood, a classic wood construction inspired by 1970s Fenders.
GIB has often offered alder/rosewood and ash/maple specifications, and this one does not disappoint.

The bridge is an original style custom ordered from ETS, and the tuners are Hipshot.

The color is Sunburst.
The finish is truly beautiful. I feel their coloring is among the best in the world.

De Gier uses a variety of pickups depending on the individual guitar, but for this one they chose Lollar.

Although the circuit is basically passive, it is equipped with a custom Vanderkley Fatboost function.
This slightly boosts the bass and reduces high-frequency loss by lowering impedance, giving the feeling that both the bass and treble are boosted simultaneously.

This is quite outstanding, and was an eye-opener for me.
The sound is already complete with passive, but just adding a little extra adds an even more powerful punch.

This minimalist yet maximum-effective design is sure to impress any bassist.

The third knob is a passive tone knob, but you can adjust the tone with the push-pull switch.

When you turn it down, you'll want to round out the high frequencies for a warmer sound, or, conversely, emphasize the high mids.

While these are usually adjusted by choosing a capacitor, this function makes it easy to choose either.

The fourth knob is a rotary switch that turns the Fatboost on and off.

Although it's a 5-string bass, the 3rd and 4th strings have an open nuance, while the 1st and 2nd strings retain their delicious mid-range.

And the 5th string is full of fresh intonation without losing the thumping, treble feel that's characteristic of a JB.

This is exactly what we were looking for in a 5-string JB.
We guarantee you'll be impressed.
