Alusonic is an Italian brand that primarily manufactures guitars and basses incorporating aluminum as a material.
Its beautiful appearance and reliable sound have rapidly gained recognition in recent years, particularly in Europe and the United States.
This model is The Doom, a new model released by them in 2024.
I had heard about this project before and even offered my opinion.
While I understood the general concept, seeing the actual instrument still elicited a "Wow...!" from its beautiful appearance.
This is the company's first fanned fret model, with a 34 to 36-inch fretboard.
The default tuning is BEAD, meaning it's a low-tuned 4-string bass with the bottom 4 strings of a 5-string bass strung. (EADG tuning is also possible.)
The body is made of Sassafras, which they've been using frequently lately.
While Sassafras bodies are usually chambered for weight reduction, this one is solid.
While Sassafras basses vary in weight, the one they've chosen is solid and remarkably lightweight (weighing only 3.375kg).
The body top is covered in aluminum with a Fossil finish.
Its beauty is undeniable.
The neck is maple, and the fingerboard is made of phenolic resin.
Their proactive adoption of new materials in the face of wood scarcity is commendable.
And in this modern style, it certainly won't have a negative impact.
The neck is very slim, but its strength is ensured by the inclusion of graphite reinforcement rods.
In terms of sound, despite the low BEAD tuning, it delivers a fresh and open tone.
This might explain why basses with fanned frets, like the Dingwall, are so popular in music that frequently uses low tunings.
Although it has 24 frets, the fact that it doesn't produce an overly dark tone is a unique characteristic of Alusonic basses.
Please try this brand's latest product, a masterpiece from the most talked-about Italian brand.
A crack caused by a structural issue was repaired by GIB in March 2024. There are no functional or aesthetic problems, so please rest assured.
