Description & Condition
Sire became famous for releasing basses supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of their guitars and basses is extremely high, and they are highly regarded not only by Marcus Miller fans but also by a wider audience.
This model is an updated version of the V7, which is based on the JB bass.
In true Marcus Miller style, it features an active circuit and boasts modern classic specifications.
The neck is made of roasted maple with a satin finish.
This is also known as thermowood.
Thermowood, which was commercialized in the musical instrument field by Sago of Japan, was originally used in Finland as a building material for saunas.
Thermowood is valued for its resistance to high temperatures and humidity, and its usefulness for musical instruments is evident from its adoption by top manufacturers such as Sadowsky and Suhr.
A certain amount of thermowood is discarded during the processing.
Presumably, those that would warp in the future are also discarded here.
Sound-wise, it has a strong impression of a well-worn, mature nuance.
The fretboard, like the neck, is made of roasted maple, but this side is finished with a gloss coating.
The edges are nicely rounded, aiming to improve playability.
Most players will likely have a positive impression of this specification.
The body is made of ash.
The pickup placement is the same as Fender's 70's JB.
It produces a unique, tight, and powerful sound.
Unlike the V7 series, the bridge is the new "New Marcus Heavymass II Bridge."
I have a positive impression of their proactive approach to incorporating new specifications.
The controls are extensive, including volume, tone, balancer, bass, middle, middle frequency, treble, and an active/passive switch.
While it may seem complex at first glance, it's logically structured for bassists.
It's characterized by a powerful sound that is tight yet rich in harmonics, with a moderate amount of compression.
This model is a must-try not only for those aiming for a Marcus Miller-esque sound, but also for anyone simply looking for a high-quality JB bass.
Fret life is approximately 80%.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork have a 7mm dent to the right of the bridge pickup, but otherwise there are no noticeable scratches or stains.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
