Description & Condition
Kikuchi Guitars is a new high-end brand created by Yoshiyuki Kikuchi (and Okada International), who has earned immense trust from many professional bassists, particularly for his work with Sadowsky.
This model is based on the acclaimed JB style, refining his previous work and bringing it together in a more modern way.
As every model is custom, there are no fixed woods, but the body weight is given particular importance, and depending on the wood, it may be finished with a chambered body.
This particular instrument has a chambered alder body.
It is finished in a Charcoal Frost Metallic color.
The neck is maple, and the fingerboard is Indian rosewood.
The tuners and bridge are HIPSHOT.
The pickups are split-coil type, manufactured by DiMarzio.
This is similar to the pickups used during the era when Sadowsky Metroline basses were made in Japan.
Its distinctive features are its low noise and trebly tone.
The preamp is a custom type specially designed by EMG for this model.
It has a simple specification, boosting only bass and treble.
This fits perfectly, as expected.
When boosting, the peak of the midrange dip is exquisite, making the bass sound tight and stylish.
Yet, it doesn't lose its bass character, and the beautiful harmonic content is preserved.
It eloquently speaks to the meaning of boosting with a 2-band EQ.
The controls are volume, balancer, tone (push/pull switch bypasses the preamp), and treble/bass.
The string height is extremely low at the time of shipment, and even in this state, the strings vibrate freely, and there are no strange problems at any position.
The precision of the neck, which has always been highly praised, is superb and fully demonstrates its quality.
The neck shape is on the thinner side.
It features an extremely fast and responsive playing feel.
Despite its compact size, it boasts ample bass response and a rich, trebly sound with abundant harmonics.
This is a supreme instrument, made possible only by Mr. Kikuchi's modern approach to bass making.
Fret life is approximately 80%.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork show some minor dents and scratches, but overall it is clean.
The electronics are in good condition.
The strap pins have been replaced with Jim Dunlop ones.
