Sago is a handmade guitar brand based in Hyogo Prefecture, specializing in fully custom-made guitars that fulfill all customer requests.

They also create regular models (though most are one-offs) utilizing the knowledge and skills cultivated over many years, and these are highly regarded.

Sago is a brand that enjoys strong trust from musicians.

Tabuchi-san of UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, RIO-san of Mary's Blood, and Kusakari-san of Sakanaction are among the Sago artists.

This model is a JB replica custom-ordered from GIB.

The body is made of alder.

It was finished in a tasteful color typical of Sago.

A noteworthy feature is the use of carbon fiber in the neck.

The balance is carefully maintained to prevent it from becoming too stiff, and in fact, the sound has a strong organic nuance.

Necks that are too strong can have a strong inorganic nuance in the sound, which can be a negative, but this is not the case with this model.

I specified HIPSHOT Ultralite tuning machines and a HIPSHOT Style B bridge.

I could have gone with GOTOH, but I chose HIPSHOT to incorporate Western nuances into both the sound and look.

I ordered it with EMG J5 pickups and an EMG BTC preamp.

The controls are simple: volume, balance, and treble/bass.

While the carbon neck and EMG electronics might evoke the Modulus, the actual tone is quite different from what you might expect—very organic.

It has a clear yet full low end, a tight midrange, and a silky, extended high end.

The acoustic nuances characteristic of EMG pickups, combined with the responsive feel of the not-too-stiff carbon neck, create a powerful yet light tone that's very appealing.

In terms of both looks and sound, this is a well-balanced instrument that showcases Sago's excellent design capabilities.
