Description & Condition
Bacchus is a Japanese brand based in Nagano.
As a brand under the Deviser umbrella, which owns a large guitar factory in Asuka, Bacchus's high quality, stemming from direct development by its own factory, has earned the deep trust of many musicians.
While the brand offers several series at different price points, this model is a masterpiece from the Global Series, which, despite being manufactured in Asia, is globally acclaimed for its high quality.
This is the WL5-STD33-AC RSM/M, an active 5-string model that inherits the easy-to-handle body shape of the higher-end WOODLINE model.
Its most distinctive feature is its 33-inch scale length, slightly shorter than a typical bass.
This scale design provides a moderate tension, resulting in a particularly sweet and full-bodied sound when playing the higher strings.
Furthermore, despite being a 5-string bass, it offers a significant advantage in playability, as finger stretching is easier.
When you actually play it, you'll realize the depth of instrument design, that a 34-inch scale isn't necessarily the only correct size for a bass.
The neck is made of satin-finished Roasted Maple.
This is also known as Thermowood.
Sago of Japan has commercialized Thermowood for use in musical instruments, and it was originally used in Finland as a building material for saunas.
While Thermowood is valued for its resistance to high temperatures and humidity, its usefulness for musical instruments is evident from its adoption by top manufacturers such as Sadowsky and Suhr.
A certain amount of Thermowood is discarded during processing.
Presumably, those that would warp in the future are also played here.
Sound-wise, it has a strong impression of mature nuance.
The electronics feature an active preamp, allowing for flexible sound shaping using a 2-band EQ.
The sound has a quick attack, blended with the clear output of the active circuit and the suppleness unique to a 33-inch scale.
The slightly shorter scale length offers exceptional playability for technically demanding playing styles and extended stage performances.
This is an ambitious instrument that we highly recommend to players who are hesitant to switch to a 5-string bass, or those seeking a practical instrument with undeniable potential beyond its price point.
The frets have approximately 90% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
While there is some slight upward bowing of the neck, it can be played without issue by adjusting the string height at the 12th fret to 2.5mm for the G string and 3.0mm for the E string.
The body and paintwork are in excellent condition with no noticeable scratches.
The electronics are in good working order.
No obvious modifications were found.
