JIENIE BASSES is a custom bass brand that launched in 2023.

The Custom Shop Series maintains its unique style while offering extensive customization options for scale length, neck shape, headstock size, and more.

On the other hand, the newly launched Essential Series features specifications determined by the brand's own optimal balance, resulting in a streamlined design.

This MJ-5 model has been conceived for over 10 years, even before the brand was established.

Its motif is the 5-string JB.

While incorporating the style of a 5-string bass, its sound remains JB-like, while adding high playability and convenience for modern musicians.

The body is made of ash, and the neck and fretboard are made of maple, a classic construction.

The neck is thin and slender, minimizing its mass as much as possible.

This aims for a sound texture closer to that of a 4-string bass.

The neck is reinforced with carbon fiber only near the joint with the body.

The joint significantly reduces strength, so reinforcement is implemented to prevent distortion starting from that point.

Reinforcing the entire body would drastically alter the sound, so the modifications are kept to a minimum.

The headstock uses a stepped design similar to a JB, but with minimal angle adjustments and headstock thickness settings.

This eliminates parts like tension pins, ensuring the strings make contact with the nut at a minimal angle.

This design removes unnecessary elements, allowing the strings to vibrate more freely and with richer harmonics.

The body shape is designed with smooth, three-dimensional curves, resulting in a comfortable fit against the body and a refined look.

While there is no pickguard, the spacing between the body top and strings is set to be almost the same as that of a typical JB.

Overall, you should feel a very JB-like comfort and playing experience.

The bridge and tuning machines are HIPSHOT.

These are very lightweight, high-quality hardware components with no unnecessary features.

The pickups are custom-ordered single-coil type from Delano.

We avoided unnecessarily increasing the winding count, instead focusing on a trebly sound similar to a 4-string bass.

The preamp was designed in-house and manufactured by KarDiaN.

Designed with the assumption of using a passive tone control, it features a 2-band EQ with only boosts.

The BASS BOOST provides a rich feel in the 40-70Hz range, while the TREBLE BOOST provides a more pronounced 4-10kHz range. By sufficiently boosting these, the frequencies around 500Hz are relatively reduced.

The passive tone control plays a crucial role here.

By using the passive tone control to suppress the high frequencies before the pickup passes through the active circuit, a strong high-mid range characteristic of passive systems is achieved. This is solely for enhancing the high-mid range; any excess or deficiency in the high frequencies is corrected by the EQ.

The MJ-5's sound was perfected by utilizing pickups, preamps, and passive tone controls designed with a clear concept in mind.

It embodies the thickness and attack of a passive JB, the strong low and high frequencies characteristic of a JB, and a trebly texture reminiscent of a 4-string bass, despite being a 5-string. The JIENIE MJ-5 embodies these characteristics.
