Jad Freer Audio is an Italian brand founded by Mauro Freddi and Giada Pezzi to design and manufacture audio equipment.

Mauro is an expert in electronics and audio, and he designs the electronics to professional specifications.
Giada assists with the hardware design and the combination of the two produces high quality items.

Originally established as a manufacturer of effects pedals, the company now also produces amplifiers and cabinets.

The company is mainly supported by European musicians, but is now rapidly gaining attention worldwide.

The reason for this is the CAPO bass preamp.

They call CAPO not just a preamp, but a ‘Multiple Preamp - DI - Saturator - FX Loop’.
It is the definitive pedal, the nucleus of a bassist's pedalboard.

This preamp has two different preamps, A SIDE and B SIDE, plus a saturator with two different characters, J and F.

The A SIDE is a clean preamp with large headroom.
It has a very natural character and strongly reinforces the tone while protecting the original sound of the instrument.

The next section after this is the saturator.

The different saturator characters of J and F can be freely balanced and mixed in any proportion with the A SIDE preamp.

The J has a full low end and a strong attack.
The F, by contrast, is characterised by a strong mid-range and a vintage-like quality.

The main concept of CAPO is to freely mix the extremely flat character of the A SIDE with the contrasting saturation of J and F.

This allows you to create a saturation feel while maximising the dynamic range and bringing it closer to your preferred amp-like character.

This blended tone can then be adjusted by the 3-band EQ.

In addition, two switches, DEEP for boosting the low end and BITE for creating a sense of attack, support even more detailed sound creation.

Another preamplifier available is the B SIDE, which uses FETs.
In contrast to the flat characteristics of the A SIDE, the B SIDE has a tube amp-like tone.

Like a traditional tube amp, it has a natural response, a wide dynamic range and a wide gain range that covers everything from clean to drive.

It can be run individually with A SIDE or in series in any order using the PRE/POST switch.

In addition to this pre-amplifier functionality, it also has a DI, LPF and loop effect functionality.

The DI has two outputs.

The DIRECT OUT feeds the signal that does not go through the pre-amplifier and is the driest sounding.
The PREAMP OUT feeds the signal through the pre-amplifier, which is the sound through the pre-amp, EQ and effects loop.

 

If an effects device placed in the effects loop inverts the phase, you can use the phase invert switch to align the DIRECT OUT and PREAMP OUT phases.

These two signals allow the sound engineer to work more freely.

The LPF is a filter that cuts the high frequencies and is designed to cut unnecessary bandwidth as required.
It affects both PREAMP OUT and OUTPUT, including when the pedal is bypassed.

There are two loop effects available, PRE and POST.
PRE is before the pedal and POST is after.

POST can be linked to A SIDE to control on/off or always active.

You can see that this is not just a pre-amp, but a multi-pedal that meets many of the bassist's demands with high quality.
