Sugi is a brand founded by Mr. Sugimoto, a legend who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
They manufacture high-quality guitars and basses in Nagano Prefecture, and are highly regarded by many musicians.
Their basses are known to be used by musicians such as Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
This model is Sugi's flagship model, the NB5.
The body top is Burl Maple, and the back is Ash.
The color is Caribbean Green Burst.
The beautiful see-through finish gives it an attractive, exotic look.
The neck is a laminated type with a maple core, and the fingerboard is Ebony.
It's a 35-inch, 24-fret specification.
This kind of dark Ebony is becoming less common these days.
The bridge and tuners are GOTOH, but these are not standard.
They are custom-made by Sugi and optimized for this bass.
The pickups are original single-coil type.
They are highly regarded.
Despite having 24 frets, the sound is characterized by its openness without being overly tight.
This characteristic seems to have a positive impact on both fingerstyle and slap playing.
