A.S.P. GEAR is a Japanese effects pedal brand.

The designer is a strong geek, and from a truly meticulous perspective, creates beautiful products that shine with universal value.

They have a reputation for producing truly niche effects pedals that combine the functionality bassists demand with the cool sound they dream of.

Tetsuya Teyan of Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas and Yoshio Kuroyanagi of SOPHIA are known to be users of the brand's products.

This is the URBAN COMP EVO, an evolution of the hugely successful URBAN COMP.

The compressor's operation is determined solely by the COMP control.

This controls the compression ratio, which is synonymous with RATIO.

Simply set your preferred compression ratio and adjust the balance with the original sound using MIX, and the sound shaping as a compressor is complete.

In this respect, it could almost be called a one-knob compressor.

At this point, the sound has a more energetic feel than before, with more tension and a sense of overall boost to the sound image.

Many modern compressors are designed to avoid excessive low-end compression.

With this pedal, I think controlling this solely with the MIX knob is sufficient.

It feels like the UI prioritizes purely outputting the sound intended by the manufacturer, rather than focusing on such finer details.

One of the distinctive controls on this unit is the TONE.

Turning it to the left functions as a high-cut/low-pass filter, and turning it to the right functions as a high-pass/low-cut filter.

It's recommended to use it to adjust the low-end balance of the sound.

Also useful for sound shaping are the FRE and ATK controls.

These are like a single-band EQ, with FRE adjusting the center frequency from 100Hz to 2kHz, and ATK adjusting the boost/cut.

The general direction of the sound is shaped with TONE, and the details are fined up with FRE and ATK, clearly demonstrating the manufacturer's intentions.

Logical and simple.

Achieve aggressive sound shaping and punchy compression in a single compact unit.

This is a masterpiece that builds upon the often complex field of compressors with a refined UI and a pure, strong concept.

There are some minor scratches and signs of use. It is in good working order.
