Description & Condition
SUMO STOMP is one of the world's most powerful effector brands.
It is like a sibling brand of Inner Bamboo Bass Instruments (IBBI), and its high quality has earned it a very high reputation among professionals and amateurs alike.
Musicians who use SUMO STOMP include Wataru Suzuki, Tamon Mori, Makoto Kawahara and Nobuyuki Abe.
This model is an optical compressor pedal in MXR size with the functions of the U-II Ultimate Compressor, one of the leading effect pedals of its sibling brand IBBI, intact.
This model has always been popular, but this is Ver. 2 with updated power supply circuitry and wiring.
As a specific change from Ver 1, the power supply used is only centre-minus 9V, and like the previous version, the voltage is boosted to 15V inside, so you can feel the margin without distortion and without too much crushing.
Also, the tuning has been increased from low-end to mid-range with a fuller feel.
The controls are straightforward: Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Output Level, Side Chain EQ Swich (Side Chain High Pass Filter).
The last one, Side Chain EQ Swich, may be a little confusing, but it solves the problem of filtering and applying too much compression to certain low frequencies.
This problem is particularly common on bass, so it's nice to have something like this to scratch that itch.
In terms of sound, the powerful push and dense overtones are very attractive.
While the compression itself is extremely natural, the sound is clearly designed, and in a good way, it feels easy to handle, like a pedal-type effect pedal.
This is a gem that we recommend with confidence.
Please give it a try.
