Description & Condition

Music Man emerged as Leo Fender's second brand and became beloved by bassists worldwide.
Many artists, including Louis Johnson and Flea, are known to use their basses. (Titles omitted)

The Stingray is a classic model that enjoys overwhelming popularity within the brand.

Alongside Fender's Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it's safe to say it's one of the most popular basses in the world.

The Stingray's specifications differ before and after Music Man was acquired by Erni Ball; pre-acquisition models are given special treatment as ""Pre-Erni"" models.

The Stingray was introduced in 1976, and the specifications changed around 1980.

This particular instrument was manufactured in 1979.

The neck is stamped with JAN ●1 1979. The neck pocket is stamped with DEC 20 1●78.

Based on these factors, the age was determined.

The body is likely ash.

The neck and fretboard are maple.

It's a beautifully crafted one-piece construction with no glued joints.

The pickups and preamp are original.

Key features of the Pre Ernie include a body without contouring, a 3-knob circuit, a 3-bolt neck joint, and a string-through-body bridge.

It's characterized by a woodier, lower-end sound compared to models with 4-knob preamps.

However, this is only in comparison; when boosted with the preamp, it produces a powerful, punchy sound.

Boosting the lows results in a punchy sound, while boosting the treble creates a more flamboyant, attack-oriented sound.

It's one of those fascinating vintage basses that continues to be talked about today.

The frets have approximately 50% remaining.

The truss rod is fully tightened.

The neck shows some high-frequency bowing. The guitar is playable with an adjustment of 0.2mm higher than the GIB standard (2.2mm-2.7mm at the 12th fret).

The body and paintwork show signs of use, with some dents and scratches.

The electronics are in good condition.

The jack has been replaced with a current Switchcraft jack by GIB. The op-amp and two capacitors in the preamp have also been replaced.
