J.W. Black is a former Fender master builder who has continued to build great guitars and basses since becoming independent.

J.W. Black's career began in 1977 working with Dick Boak at Martin, and for several years starting in 1983 he worked with Sadowsky.
After a brief stint at Rudy's (a New York guitar store that produced many great builders, including John Sur, Stephan Marchione, Mas Hino, and Jimmy Coppolo), he moved to Fender in 1989.

The connections he made in his time up to this point are still good today, and J.W. Black is the one who does the relic work for Suhr Guitars and Sadowsky Guitars.

Also, at some point prior to Fender, he was friends with Prince, Jim Hall, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Marcus Miller, with whom he continues to have a relationship as one of his customers.

His work with Fender began in 1989 as a master builder from day one, working with world-famous names such as Lou Reed, Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton.

The Relic process, born out of a project with Rolling Stones producer Don Was, was an innovative idea at the time and has become a very large and much favored element of guitars today.

After more than a decade of work with Fender, J.W. Black earned his reputation and became Fender's first Senior Master Builder, a position he held until 2002, when he decided to go out on his own.

After going out on his own, he spent several years repairing vintage guitars for vintage guitar dealers (he once repaired a guitar destroyed by Jimi Hendrix for Frank Zappa and maintained Eric Clapton's guitar collection over the course of a week! ) ).

Later, he finally launched his own brand and began selling his products. He selects and cuts the wood, paints, wires, and of course hand shapes the necks himself, so he produces only about 5 guitars per month.

This model is a gem of the JP series manufactured in Japan.
