Inner Bamboo Bass Instruments (IBBI) is one of the world's leading brands of effects pedals.
Their SUMO STOMP series is also very popular.
Its quality is highly regarded by professionals and amateurs alike.
Musicians who use IBBI include Naoki Koyama of m.s.t., Yutaro Iizuka of EOW, and Takumi Katsuya, who supports Fujii Kaze, yama, Tomoo, and others.
This model is the U-II Ultimate Compressor, which is highly regarded as a top-quality bass compressor.
A classic opto-comp design using a photocoupler.
This is a masterpiece that is made with great attention to not only the circuit but also the materials, such as using vintage wire for the internal wiring.
It runs on a 9V power supply, but it is boosted to 15V internally, so there is no distortion and you can feel the margin without being too crushed.
The controls are easy to understand: Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Output Level, and SCEQ (Side Chain High Pass Filter).
The last one, SCEQ, may be a little difficult to understand, but it applies a filter to solve the problem of excessive compression on certain low frequencies.
This is a common problem especially with bass, so it's nice to have a specification that addresses this issue.
In terms of sound, the low frequencies are pushed out and the high frequencies are glossy, making it very glamorous.
In a good way, the direction of the sound is clearly designed and does not feel natural. (The compression itself is extremely natural.)
It's safe to think of it as a compressor, and of course as a preamp.
This pedal is not true bypass.
The bypass sound is also designed, and you wouldn't choose it compared to true bypass.
The bypass sound is glossy and very good.
Overall, it's the highest quality compressor currently available.
