Description & Condition

Fodera is one of the world's most respected high-end bass guitar brands.

Founder Vinny Fodera began his career as a teenager.
After working at prestigious workshops such as Spector and Ken Smith, he founded Fodera Guitars in 1983.

Their clients include some of the world's most elite musicians, including Victor Wooten, Richard Bona, Marcus Miller, and Anthony Jackson. (Titles omitted)

Their breathtakingly beautiful finish makes the high price tag understandable.

This is an Emperor four-string guitar with a double-cut body, a perennial favorite among musicians.

It was manufactured in 1985.
There is a stamp under the bridge reading FEB 12 1985.

Since there is no spec sheet, the wood composition is speculative, but the body top is Wenge and the back is Ash.
The neck is Maple and the fingerboard is Ebony.

The bridge is made by Schaller, a spec that shows its age.

The pickups are Bartolini 9S, and the preamp is also Bartolini NTMB.
Although these are modifications, since most basses at the time used Bartolini electronics, they don't detract from the instrument's appeal or make a negative impression.

The neck joint is a through-neck construction, which I think gives it a more Fodera-like feel than a bolt-on.

It's incredibly easy to play, and the responsiveness makes you clearly aware of the open, strong string vibrations unique to a four-string bass.

I've played many five-string Foderas, and this is why the appeal of a four-string bass is so strong.

This is an instrument that Fodera enthusiasts will likely love.
That's why it's a great instrument that many bassists should experience for themselves.

Approximately 80% of the frets remain.

The truss rod is stiff, but has been confirmed to move about 90 degrees.

The neck is in good condition.
The body and finish show minor scratches, dents, and paint chipping.
The electrical system is in good condition.
The guitar has been refretted. The pickups have been replaced with Bartolini 9S pickups, and the preamp has been replaced with a Bartolini NTMB pickup. Some of the controls have been changed accordingly.

Controls: Kill switch, neck pickup volume, middle pickup, bridge pickup volume, treble/bass, mid-frequency switch, preamp bypass switch
Nut width: 39.3mm
Bridge string spacing: 19.0mm
Scale: 34 inches
Year of manufacture: 1985
Country of manufacture: USA
