Musicman emerged as Leo Fender's second brand and was loved by bassists worldwide.
After being acquired by Ernie Ball, this has remained the case and is still widely accepted by modern bassists.

Louis Johnson, Flea and many other artists are known to use the company's basses.

The Stingray is the brand's most popular classic model by far.
Along with Fender's Jazz Bass and Precision Bass, it is arguably one of the most popular basses in the world.

This is a Stingray Special manufactured in 2018.

The neck is made of Roasted Maple.

It was originally developed using Finnish technology as a wood for making saunas.
By treating it at high temperatures, the moisture and oil inside the wood is volatilised, making it highly stable even at high temperatures and humidity.
In terms of sound, it gives the impression of a richer, more mature sound.

The fingerboard is Maple.

I remember that around the time the Stingray Special was introduced, the pickups and pre-amp were redesigned.

The pickups are made of neodymium magnets.
This gave it a powerful, wide-range sound.
It retains the classic Stingray tone, but is more suited to modern ensembles.

The pre-amplifier is now driven by 18V instead of the 9V previously used.
This gives more headroom and aims for a clearer tone.
The sound is transformable thanks to the 3-band EQ, and can range from a slap-pleasing crunchy sound to warm vintage tones.

When a single manufacturer handles everything from pickups to preamps like this, the manufacturer's aims are strongly reflected in the sound, which can be good or bad, and the result is something very unique.
I personally have a good impression of this renewal and feel that it is very refined and complete.

The tuning machine uses a redesigned, lightweight open gear type.

It goes without saying that the balance when set up is very good, but in terms of sound there is also a change in a positive direction to utilise the more powerful electronics.

The control plate and bridge are also somewhat lighter.

Personally, I liked the vintage 3-knob era Stingrays and to be honest, I didn't think the current product could be compared to those in a negative way.

However, in considering this renewed Stingray Special, I have found that this thinking is erroneous.

If you are looking for a Stingray in the same way, but only if it is vintage or classic, this is an ambitious product that you should try.

The frets are roughly 90% remaining.
