Description & Condition
Musicman was introduced as Leo Fender's second brand and was loved by bassists all over the world.
Even after being acquired by Ernieball, this has remained the case and is still widely accepted by modern bassists.
Many artists such as Louis Johnson and Flea are known to use the company's basses.
Stingray is the brand's overwhelmingly popular standard model.
It is no exaggeration to say that it is one of the most popular basses in the world, along with Fender's Jazz Bass and Precision Bass.
This is a special model, so it has some special specifications.
The neck uses roasted maple.
Originally a Finnish technique, it was developed as a wood for making saunas.
By treating it at high temperatures, the moisture and oil inside the wood are evaporated, making it highly stable even in high temperature and humidity.
In terms of sound, I have the impression that it sounds more mature and rich.
The fingerboard is ebony.
I remember that around the time the Stingray Special came out, the pickups and preamplifier were completely new.
The pickup uses neodymium magnet as the material.
This creates a powerful and wide-range sound.
It maintains the classic Stingray tone but fits more modern ensembles.
The preamplifier was previously driven at 9V, but now it is driven at 18V.
This gives you more headroom and aims for a clearer tone.
The 3-band EQ allows for a wide variety of sounds, from a pleasant slap sound to warm vintage tones.
When a single manufacturer handles everything from pickups to preamps, the manufacturer's intentions are clearly reflected in the sound, resulting in something very unique, for better or for worse.
Personally, I have a good impression of this renovation, and I feel that it is extremely sophisticated and has a high degree of completion.
The tuning machine uses a redesigned lightweight open gear type.
It goes without saying that the balance when held is very good, but I also think that the sound has changed in a positive direction by making use of more powerful electronics.
Somehow the control plate and bridge seem to be lightweight as well.
Personally, I like the vintage 3-knob era Stingray, and to be honest, I didn't think the current model could be compared to them in a negative way.
However, considering this renewed Stingray Special, that idea turns out to be wrong.
For those who are also looking for a Stingray, but unless it's vintage or classic, this is an ambitious product that you should definitely try.
Approximately 90% of the frets remain.
The truss rod works well.
The neck is in good condition.
The condition of the body and paint surface is that there are some dents and scratches here and there.
No obvious modification points were found.
