The third tube effect pedal from Beyond, a brand founded by engineers from some of Japan's leading manufacturers!
The Preamp was developed following the Booster and Buffer.
There are three models in the Preamp line-up for guitar, acoustic and bass, but this one is for bass.
I (GIB Saga) was deeply involved in the development and the design was optimised for the modern bassist.
As with the previous two models, just by passing it through, the density of the low to mid-range is increased dramatically, and a unique tube nuance such as a slight compression and saturation feeling can be obtained.
Controls are simple: Volume, Bass, Middle and Treble.
The EQ frequency range is as follows.
-Bass 65Hz
-Middle 500Hz
-Treble 4kHz
While many EQs set Bass at 40Hz, we have chosen 65Hz for this product.
With 40Hz, it is not uncommon for the sound to become too blurred or fuzzy when boosted.
In this respect, by setting it to 65Hz, we eliminated the problems of 40Hz boost and imagined an operating feel that only controls the presence of the bass and the push of the low frequencies.
Middle is set at 500 Hz and is imagined to adjust the tightness of the bass sound.
Cutting it makes it clearer and boosting it makes it louder.
I think the 500Hz adjustment plays a very important role in controlling the bass's sense of loss.
The Treble is at 4kHz and we didn't dare to cover the so called presence band.
Instead, I adjusted it in such a way as to widen the Q range more than Bass and Middle.
We imagined the operation to be like adjusting the metallic nuance of the strings and the delicacy of the touch.
It is like adjusting the treble part of the component that is actually audible to the ear as a pitch.
As typified by the aforementioned EQ, the amount of boost, the width of the Q, the frequency band, etc. were repeatedly adjusted in detail under various conditions, and we adopted what we could say was the most useful for bass.
Prioritising sound over cost, an Electro Harmonix 12AU7EH vacuum tube was used.
Other electronic parts have also been selected with the highest priority on performance, without any cost-cutting that would compromise functionality or reduce quality.
Furthermore, this is the GIB exclusive BLUE LED ver.
Perhaps it's that generation, but blue LEDs seem to have a special atmosphere.
There are some minor scratches and scuffs.
The imo screw for mounting the Middle knob has been replaced.
Operation is good.
The GIB craftsmen will deliver the product after a strict inspection.
