Description & Condition

Bacchus is a Japanese brand based in Nagano.

As a brand under Diviser, which owns the large Asuka Factory guitar plant, its high quality—achieved because the factory handles production itself—is highly regarded by many musicians.

This model is the signature model for Korean bassist H. J. FREAKS.

It is part of the newly created Japan Tune-up series, which aims for high quality.

The Japan Tune-up series employs a method where manufacturing occurs overseas, while nut adjustments, fret dressing, edge finishing, and similar processes are performed domestically in Japan.

This approach aims to achieve high quality while keeping prices competitive, striving for a product that rivals the top-tier quality of Japanese-made instruments in every aspect.

I actually observed the work performed at Diviser's workshop in Nagano. The meticulous finishing applied to each individual instrument is indistinguishable from their top-tier HANDMADE series.

The actual manufacturing takes place in Indonesia.

It's no exaggeration to say Indonesia is currently the world's most highly regarded guitar manufacturing country. Besides Yamaha, many top guitar brands entrust their production there (CORT, for example, has factories there).

The Bacchus brand excels at quality control for manufacturing in Asia.

Musicians living in Japan who can easily purchase this brand are fortunate indeed.

Now, regarding the basic design of this model: while taking the JB as its motif, its major feature is the wide playing range offered by its 24 frets.

It's based on a traditional body shape, but incorporates more modern arrangements while ensuring playability in the higher positions.

The neck and fingerboard utilize Roasted Maple.

This is also known as thermowood.

Thermowood, commercialized for musical instruments by Japan's Sago, was originally used as sauna construction material in Finland.

While valued as wood resistant to high temperatures and humidity, its usefulness for instruments is evident from its adoption by top manufacturers like Sadowsky and Suhr.

It's said that a certain percentage of thermowood is discarded during processing.

This likely includes pieces with a higher probability of warping in the future, which are discarded here.

Sound-wise, it gives a distinct impression of a well-seasoned, mature nuance.

The body is Alder.

Features the original pickups and preamp.

Controls are ample: Volume/Tone, Balancer, Treble, Middle, Bass, Mute Switch, and Preamp Bypass Switch.

The top jack is also a very important point, reflecting the attention to detail of H. J. FREAKS, who is a serious musician in his professional life.

Approximately 75% of the frets remain.

The truss rod is in good condition.

The neck is in good condition.

The body and finish show scattered dents on the sides, but overall it is in clean condition.

The electronics are in good condition.

No obvious modifications were observed.
