Sire gained sudden fame as the brand that released basses supervised by Marcus Miller.
The quality of the guitars and basses they manufacture is exceptionally high, earning strong support even beyond Marcus fans.
This is their new product, the Z3-5.
As you can see, it's a model inspired by the Musicman Stingray.
The neck has a lovely, vintage-style feel to it, doesn't it?
The body wood is Mahogany.
Indonesia has a good supply of high-quality Mahogany, so that's likely why it was chosen.
In reality, even Musicman tends to be somewhat indifferent about body wood beyond its appearance, so they might not place much emphasis on its impact on tone. (Just my opinion.)
For this type of design, the pickup performance, placement, and the preamp become extremely important factors.
Both SIRE models feature original in-house designs.
Notably, the preamp isn't repurposed from the original JB model; they specifically developed the HERITAGE-3 preamp for this.
Controls include Volume, Treble, Middle, and Bass.
Pulling up the Bass knob bypasses the preamp, allowing passive operation.
Since the original Musicman Stingray didn't offer a passive option, many will view this positively.
The fretboard and fretwork finish is outstanding.
While expected in this price range, it holds its own against higher-priced models with its high-quality construction.
The sound delivers exactly what you'd expect: punchy, strong highs and tight lows.
Until now, there weren't many options for this type of bass, but I feel a truly excellent replica has finally arrived. Highly recommended.
