Momose, based in Matsumoto, Nagano, produces high quality basses and guitars.

The MJ Five 24 is an ambitious work based on the traditional JB style with unique design details.
This is a so-called "Show model" manufactured by Divisor in 2023, a premium model with an elaborate design.
All of the premium models are one-off pieces, each carefully crafted by skilled artisans according to their own inspirations.

The first thing to note is the exotic look.
The top of the body is made of spotted hackberry.
I have never seen such a wood grain.
The body back is made of one-piece alder without laminating.

The neck is made of thermo-treated quarter-sawn maple.
Thermo treatment is a technique to add strength to hot and humid environments through heat treatment, and was originally used as a building material for saunas in Finland.
It is said to be similar to vintage guitar necks because the moisture and oil inside the wood have been volatilized.
The sound of the guitar has a long-ago nuance.

The pickups are the original Momose BH5, and the preamp is an Aguilar OBP-2.
Controls are volume, balancer, treble, bass, active/passive switch, and coil tap switch.

The sound, which includes plenty of swinging bass and attackee, air-pounding treble, is universally appealing in an ensemble.

This is a must-try for the bassist who is not only a hands-on bassist, but also for the bassist who wants to get his/her own special one.
