HEX Guitars is a brand based in South Korea that specializes in products spanning the entry-level to mid-range price points.
They own their own factory in Indonesia and handle manufacturing themselves. This sets them apart from brands that typically rely on OEM production.
Because they don't outsource to other factories and the boss himself gets involved on the factory floor, they produce guitars of unexpectedly high quality for their price point.
This is a 7-string headless model from the Z Series, featuring more advanced specifications.
It boasts modern specs like a 25.5-26.5" multi-scale fretboard, custom active humbuckers, and a Roasted Maple neck.
The refined body shape utilizes Indonesian Mahogany.
Two rubber feet are attached to the body end, allowing the guitar to stand stably without a stand.
The neck utilizes Roasted Maple.
Roasted wood, also known as Thermo wood, is a new material popularized by Japan's Sago new material guitars.
Originally a Finnish technology, it was developed for wood used in saunas.
High-temperature processing evaporates moisture and oils within the wood, resulting in exceptional stability even in high-humidity environments.
Sonically, it imparts a more refined and rich tone.
The fingerboard uses Indian Rosewood.
The radius is 12".
The fret material is stainless steel.
Stainless steel is characterized by its lack of tarnish and high hardness.
Stainless steel frets maintain their shine indefinitely and are extremely resistant to wear, making them popular in high-end guitar brands in recent years.
The neck shape is slim and features a neutral C-shape.
The bridge is a hardtail.
It features an original Custom Active Ceramic Rail Humbucker pickup.
They use original pickups in many models.
This isn't for cost-cutting; it stems from their confidence in the quality of their self-designed pickups.
Staff who understand music and play daily meticulously researched and designed numerous elements like magnets, wire, and bobbins.
Being active pickups, they deliver extremely low noise, clarity, and substantial gain (gain level adjustable via the back panel).
It's also worth noting that the sound is never overly cold; it retains ample musical harmonics.
Controls include a pickup selector, volume, and tone (with a push-pull switch for coil tap on/off).
The balance in the hands is excellent; even players accustomed to Fender or Gibson guitars will find it comfortable to play.
No special headless strings are required; standard guitar strings (like those for Stratocasters or Les Pauls) can be used.
It delivers the clean, crisp sound characteristic of a headless design, yet it doesn't sacrifice musical harmonics or rich bass response.
The fundamental quality around the neck is exceptionally high, resulting in outstanding playability. It's difficult to definitively say it falls short when compared to instruments priced around ¥200,000.
Overall, this is a superb product boasting high quality in every aspect: looks, playability, and sound.
For those who want to try a headless guitar, and even as a first guitar, I don't think it's a bad choice at all.
