De Gier is a Dutch brand started by Sander De Gier in 1996.
He originally focused on making unique and modern bass guitars, but now his main focus is on products that push the Fender style.
The brand was originally highly regarded, but after releasing a JB-style model called BeBop, he has had his hands full with that work since it was so great.
Now, in addition to the Fender style, the line-up also includes a unique model in the Thunderbird style.
I first met De Gier at the Guitar Summit in Germany in 2022.
At first glance, I had high expectations of the instrument's appearance, which were confirmed the moment I plucked a string.
The quality was so overwhelmingly excellent that we started negotiations.
At first, for various reasons, it was difficult to sell them to Japan, but after patient negotiations, we have now started selling them. (We persisted for a long time because it was really great and we definitely wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians.)
There were many other brands exhibiting at Guitar Summit, and I spoke to many different builders.
De Gier came up several times and seemed to be widely known for its capabilities.
Some builders even ordered basses for themselves from De Gier.
That's how great a reputation the brand has in Europe and the US.
And I have the same maximum appreciation for them myself.
This model is a Fender-style P-bass, which is their strongest speciality.
The body is made of alder, the fingerboard is rosewood, a classic wood combination.
The bridge is the original style and the pegs are Hipshot.
The PU is a Kloppmann.
The guitar is assembled with a simple passive circuit of volume and tone.
The paintwork is nitrocellulose lacquer, finished with a relic finish.
This atmospheric quality, created by the colouring and the relic finish, is one of the characteristics of the De Gier.
The quality is really high.
The sound is bouncy and fresh, with plenty of bass, a rich middle and a juicy treble.
A sound that will tug at a bassist's heartstrings while fulfilling the range required of a bass in an ensemble.
This is what we bassists are looking for.
We promise to impress you.
