De Gier is a Dutch brand started by Sander De Gier in 1996.
Originally, he mainly made unique and modern bass guitars, but now he mainly makes products that emphasize the Fender style.
The brand was originally highly acclaimed, but ever since they released a JB style model called BeBop, they've become so great that they've had their hands full with that work.
Currently, in addition to the Fender style, we also have a lineup of unique models that incorporate the Gibson style.
I met De Gier at the Guitar Summit held in Germany in 2022.
At first glance, I had high expectations for its appearance, and the moment I played it, my expectations changed to certainty.
I was so impressed with the overwhelming quality of the product that I started negotiations.
At first, it was difficult to sell to Japan for various reasons, but after persistent negotiations, we were able to start sales. (It was really amazing, so I really wanted to introduce it to Japanese musicians, so I persisted for a long time.)
There were many other brands exhibiting at Guitar Summit, and I spoke with a variety of builders.
De Gier was mentioned several times in the discussion, and his abilities seemed to be widely known.
Some builders even order their own basses from De Gier.
This is a brand that has received such great reviews in Europe and America.
And I myself have the same highest evaluation.
This model is their big hit, BeBop5.
A prototype of this model was purchased by Marcus Miller, and soon after, Richard Bona also ordered one.
It continues to be highly appreciated by real musicians like them.
The body is Alder and the fingerboard is Rosewood, a classic wood combination.
The bridge is an original style custom-ordered from ETS, and the tuner is Hipshot.
The color is Sunburst.
This is a really beautiful finish. I feel that their coloring is the best in the world.
De Gier uses various PUs depending on the individual, but for this individual it is Lollar.
Although it is basically a passive circuit, it is equipped with Vanderkley's custom Fatboost function.
This slightly lifts the bass range and lowers the impedance, reducing loss in the treble range, giving the impression that the bass and treble ranges have been boosted at the same time.
This was quite excellent and an eye-opener.
The sound is already complete when it's passive, but by adding just a little bit to it, it seems like you can get an even stronger punch.
All bassists will be impressed by this minimalistic yet maximum-effective design.
The third knob is a passive tone, but you can adjust the effect of the tone with a push-pull switch.
Especially when narrowing down, there are times when you want to make the treble region rounder and warmer, and times when you want to strongly emphasize the high-mids.
Normally they are adjusted by the choice of capacitor, but this feature makes it easy to choose either.
The fourth knob is a rotary switch that turns Fatboost on and off.
Although it is a 5-string bass, the 3rd and 4th strings retain their open nuances, and the 1st and 2nd strings retain their delicious midrange.
And the 5th string does not lose its trebley JB feel and is full of fresh pitch.
This is exactly what we wanted from a 5-string JB.
We promise to impress you.
