Collision Devices is a boutique effects brand handmade in France.
The brand is young, having been established around 2016, but has gained a large following, especially in Europe and the US.
This pedal, TARS, is an analogue fuzz/filter pedal.
The Fuzz part is extracted from the Singularty part of the company's Black Hole Symmetry.
It is then passed through a filter inspired by the Korg MS20 with a noisy texture.
The unique controls are also distinctive.
Gain is placed after the input with JFET transistors, followed by a silicon transistor amplification and clipping part; Master is the volume; and the volume is the volume control. Master is the volume.
Cut Off is based on the low-pass filter of the MS-20 and can be set freely from 15-44 kHz.
Resonance then controls the increase or decrease of the frequency set by Cut Off.
By manipulating these two controls, the character of the sound can change dramatically.
The small LPF VOL knob controls the volume of the low-pass filter. It can be said to be an adjustment of the range dominated by the filter.
The 2p/4p switch affects the Cut Off character, with 2p producing a brighter sound and 4p a darker sound. So the amount of cut-off in the high frequencies is altered.
The Add Fuzz switch adds an unfiltered Fuzz signal. It can provide more gain or add the opposite characteristics to the filter.
The s/p switch changes the characteristics of the Add Fuzz switch. It determines whether the Fuzz signal to be added is in series or whether it and both signals are passed through the filter.
And there is one part of this pedal that can be controlled with the expression pedal.
It's the Cut Off part, which allows you to change the frequency response significantly.
The texture of the Fuzz is not too buzzy and relatively distortion-oriented.
Because it is an easy-to-use texture, the changes made by the Cut Off control are a lot of fun.
The changes in tone with this are very large, and it is possible to create sounds in a range that is not possible with normal fuzz.
