Clefs is a Japanese handmade effects pedal brand in which all processes are done by one person.
The high sound quality of their products is slowly gaining popularity among professionals and amateurs alike.
This is a VCA type compressor pedal.
The original design was based on the dbx 160, a famous VCA compressor.
This model is a pedal-sized version of the dbx 160 with a practicality that fits the current era.
Controls include Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Feed, SCHP, Gain, Blend, and a full range of compressor functions.
The most notable specifications are Feed and SCHP.
Feed allows you to mix two compression methods, feedforward and feedback, steplessly.
The role of Feed is to determine whether the signal that operates the compressor comes from before or after the compressor.
Therefore, the feed-forward type has a quick response and clean sound, while the feedback type has a smooth response and natural sound.
The SCHP (side-chain high-pass filter) reduces compression below a certain bandwidth.
This allows for the preservation of low-frequency dynamics, which is a feature that is often found in compressors, especially for basses.
Although the controls are complex, they are all practical and surprisingly intuitive.
