【new】FAGO / Standard series 5st Jazz Pearl White/M 4.470kg #M00392【GIB Yokohama】

FAGO (Fa Gao) is a Chinese bass guitar brand that champions "MADE BY PLAYERS FOR PLAYERS" and "BE NICE TO PLAYERS." They are committed to small-batch production, with each instrument meticulously assembled, adjusted, and inspected by hand.

Lin, the brand's leader, runs his own workshop, personally adjusting the nut and bridge saddle on each instrument.

FAGO continues to evolve rapidly, and this latest batch features numerous improvements.

This model is from the Standard series.

FAGO uses 150 sets of tonewood, selecting 30 sets of particularly superior wood for the body and neck in the higher-end Select series, while the remaining 120 sets are used for the Standard series. The basic design, including the body, neck, preamp, bridge, and tuners, is the same as the Select series.

The body is made of alder, and the neck is maple—a classic combination.

The nut is handcrafted from cow bone. The nut width is 44.7mm (actual measurement). The neck shape is a hand-carved C-shape with a standard thickness.

The fingerboard is made of maple, contributing to a bright sound with a clear attack.

The fretboard radius is a relatively flat 14 inches. Abalone dots are used for the position markers. There are 21 medium jumbo frets.

The pickups are original Fago Fat Jazz Pickups, mounted in the 60s position. These are designed with a high-end US brand as a reference. Basically, it aims for a classic style.

The preamp is the original Fago Transparent PRE. It features a 2-band EQ and has a clear yet vibrant character. The EQ's variable frequency range is exquisitely set; the bass includes components in the sub-low range, while the higher low frequencies around 100Hz are not excessively boosted, and the boost range is moderate, giving it a smart impression.

The treble is designed with a wide range and boost range. This allows for flexible control of the treble boost when combined with the passive tone. This is similar to Alleva-Coppolo, Sadowsky, and JIENIE. It shares a similar design philosophy to the BASSES series.

Controls include Volume, Balancer, Tone, Bass, and Treble. A mini toggle switch allows for active/passive switching.

Electronic components are mounted on the pickguard, and conductive shielding is applied to the cavity and the back of the pickguard. The battery can be replaced via the battery box on the back; it ships with a Procell battery.

The bridge is a FAGO Fat Punch Bridge (A Type).

It has a large base plate, and the string spacing at the bridge is 18mm.

The tuning machines are Fago Smooth machines made by WSC (Korea). The Tune (gear ratio 20:1) allows for lightweight and highly accurate tuning. The headstock has a 4:1 peg configuration.

The sound retains the characteristics of a Jazz Bass, but is more powerful and has a wider high range.

Incorporating many modern elements such as the fretboard radius and medium jumbo frets, it has a tight texture. Yet, the playability is not too stiff, and a sense of suppleness is felt. This is likely due to the fact that the string angle at the bridge and nut is not excessively large.

Regarding the difference between the Standard and Select series, the former has a strong, tight, and modern feel, while the latter has a richer and more supple feel. There is a price difference between these series, but you can choose based on the sound characteristics you prefer.

The ability to combine the wide range characteristic of modern basses with the strong sound of 90s NYC basses is very appealing.

All FAGO basses are shipped after being checked by the designer himself.

If you are looking for a carefully crafted bass in this price range, please give this one a try.
