Hofner is a brand that manufactures distinctive instruments, such as the so-called "violin bass."
It's known that musicians like Paul McCartney were avid users of their basses.
This is a 1967 500/1, a representative model of the brand.
The pot date is 227, indicating 1967.
The age was also determined from the pickup specifications.
The body top is spruce, and the body back is maple.
The neck is maple, and the fingerboard is rosewood.
These are specifications not found in Fender-style basses.
The pickups are original.
The tuning machines have been replaced, but the rest of the instrument appears to be original.
