Tobias is a bass brand that led to the current MTD.
Michael Tobias, the brand's founder, has been involved in bass making since the 1970s and has had a significant influence on modern bass builders.
After its establishment, Tobias became a subsidiary of Gibson, and production was suspended for a long period. However, production has recently resumed, and the brand has made a comeback.
This is the Classic IV, which was released after the brand's resumption of production.
The body features walnut wings with a figured quilted maple top, a laminated through-neck made of hard maple and purpleheart, and a wenge fingerboard.
In addition to its beautiful wood grain, the through-neck construction provides a smooth attack and rich sustain.
It is equipped with Bartolini MT4C-1 pickups and a Bartolini NTMB+GFL preamp.
The sound is wide-ranging and three-dimensional, with a rich low end, smooth mid-high frequencies, and natural harmonics. This guitar strikes a good balance between the playability expected of a 34-inch scale and the massive, characteristic sound of a Tobias guitar.
It's an interesting instrument from a brand history perspective, as it reflects Michael Tobias' design philosophy that continues to influence the current MTD line.
