Description & Condition
Description & Condition
Mike Lull is a popular brand, primarily in the United States.
Used by top-tier professionals such as Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam) and Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats), it's a brand that has gained increasing recognition in Japan in recent years. (Titles omitted)
As you can see, this is a model based on the JB type.
It was likely manufactured between 2013 and 2014.
The signature on the back of the headstock, though faded, appears to be Mike Lull's own handwriting.
The body is likely made of ash, and it features a classic 35-inch maple neck.
The neck is thin, and the frets and fingerboard edges are carefully finished, contributing to its high playability despite its length.
Its easy handling and lightweight design (3.96kg) are also major advantages for players.
The fingerboard features beautiful Birdseye Maple, giving it a luxurious look.
The pickup is a Seymour Duncan SJB-5.
The electronics, including the preamp, have been replaced with a Nordstrand 3b, renowned as a high-end replacement.
The sound is a modern take on the organic sound of a traditional passive JB, a true NY sound.
While possessing a bright, crisp, 70s-like clarity when slapping, it avoids the unnatural, flashy sound often found in active guitars with preamps, instead featuring an organic resonance.
Despite being a single-coil pickup, it doesn't feel thin at all, delivering a thick, rich sound across the entire frequency range.
The overwhelming responsiveness, where the player's touch is directly translated into sound, is also a major attraction, capturing not only the crispness of slap bass but also the delicate nuances of fingerstyle playing without compromise.
The 35-inch scale neck results in a very tight Low-B.
There's no blurring typical of Low-B strings; the transition from the 4th string is smooth and clearly defined.
Rather than asserting itself overtly on its own, this bass strikes a perfect balance, providing a comfortable and harmonious support for the ensemble without being overpowering.
While it may sound subdued at first glance, the moment drums and vocals are added, the core of the bass frequencies clearly emerges, making it a perfect fit for J-POP, modern gospel, and R&B.
This M5V, known for its high playability, has been customized to broaden its sound-shaping possibilities.
For those seeking a 5-string bass that tightly supports the ensemble while clearly articulating the necessary frequencies, this is undoubtedly a perfect fit.
Fret life is approximately 80%.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
There are some dents and buckle scratches on the body and paintwork.
The electronics are in good condition.
The electronics have been replaced with a complete Nordstrand 3b system.
