Sugi is a brand founded by Mr. Sugimoto, a legend who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
They manufacture high-quality guitars and basses in Nagano Prefecture, and are highly regarded by many musicians.
Their basses are known to be used by musicians such as Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
This model is the Sugi flagship model, the NB5.
The body top is Claro Walnut, and the back is Honduras Mahogany.
While using woods that have a strong presence, typical of Sugi, the deep brown color gives it a calm and sophisticated look.
The neck is a laminated type with a Timeless Timber Maple core.
This technique of laminating multiple pieces of wood to create the neck reduces left-right differences and individual differences, resulting in higher stability.
The pickup is a Sugi SB-84WP.
The hardware is GOTOH, but these are custom-made by Sugi and optimized for this bass.
Despite having 24 frets, this guitar is characterized by its open, resonant sound that isn't overly tight.
For fingerstyle playing, it offers a good balance of richness and definition, while for slap bass, the clarity and wide range are very pleasing.
This guitar embodies Sugi's characteristic meticulous craftsmanship and modern practicality.
The frets have approximately 80% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork have some minor scratches, but overall it's clean. There is one paint chip on the side of the body and one near the neck pocket.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
