Description & Condition
Sugi is a brand founded by Mr. Sugimoto, a legend who has supported Japanese guitar making for many years.
They manufacture high-quality guitars and basses in Nagano Prefecture, and are highly regarded by many musicians.
Their basses are known to be favored by musicians such as Hojin Egawa and Mike Porcaro of TOTO.
This model is the Sugi flagship model, the NB4.
The body top is made of beautiful flame maple, and the body back is made of ash.
The neck is a laminated type with a maple core.
This technique of laminating multiple pieces of wood to create the neck reduces left-right and individual differences, resulting in higher stability.
The fingerboard is likely Indian rosewood.
The pickups are Sugi SB-84WJ.
The controls are a simple passive circuit with neck pickup volume, bridge pickup volume, and master tone.
Despite being a 24-fret model, it doesn't sound too tight, and is characterized by an open, nuanced midrange.
The guitar boasts a rich, full sound with a strong core to each note.
The frets have approximately 90% remaining.
The truss rod is in good condition.
The neck is in good condition.
The body and paintwork have some minor scratches and dents overall. These do not affect playability. Turning the neck pickup volume pot with excessive force causes the knob to spin freely. This does not affect normal use.
The electronics are in good condition.
No obvious modifications were observed.
